Wait just a minute

Patience is not one of my strongest characteristics as is the case of most humans. We grumble and complain about waiting and seems everywhere we go there's waiting to be done.  We can't wait to retire.  We can't wait to grow up.  We can't wait for vacation.  We can't wait, can't wait.

Without fail, we can count on waiting if we go to a doctor's appointment.  I can't recall a time in my life when I didn't have to wait to be seen.  If we are really feeling ill, the wait seems to triple.  Am I right? One things for sure, I have often complained about the wait.  Maybe I didn't complain to anyone but me, BUT still it was complaining.

This is no different with waiting on God.  We are impatient and find it uncomfortable to wait on God to do things in our lives.  He is The Doctor/Healer who has the solution to every problem, the cure for every illness...in fact...has already fixed the problem before we even knew we had it.  WHY do we complain when we have to wait on Him?  Why complain if we know He is going to make things better in His own time?

C.S. Lewis wrote, "...I am sure God keeps no one waiting unless He sees that it is good for him to wait."  He's speaking of doctrines and stuff but the point is the same.  God has a purpose in our waiting.

We often hear people say that they are afraid to pray for patience because we will get more waiting.  Lol.  But, we can rest knowing that the One who knows what is going to happen next...has it under control.

"Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will reveal to us later. " (Romans 8:18 NLT)  This verse alone, makes me okay with waiting on the Lord.  If God is having us wait, there is certainly a good reason for it.  Exercise patience-After all, it is a fruit of the Spirit and the reward is going to be well worth waiting for.
