As I went for my morning exercise, I ran into a flock of guineas. Most of them quickly jumped a ditch to escape what they perceived as a threat. No running, just a quick jump. Two of them decided it would be better to run from the perceived threat but stayed directly in front of me. They were running from me, a lover of birds that would NEVER harm them. In fact, if one was wounded I would find myself trying to save them.
There are many people that act as the guineas. When life has a perceived threat, we sometimes run away from God not fully understanding that when we are wounded He wants to save us, heal us-certainly not harm us. Often, we blame God for the threat or the bad turn of events.
Why is it so difficult to trust God? Why do we fear running to Him and choose, instead, to run from Him? The guineas saw me as a threat. They SAW. I believe our big issue with running to God is we can't physically see Him. Are we fearful of His punishment?
Not knowing God and understanding His power, His love, His grace and mercy, can cause us to lack the trust that we should have in Him. That, my friend, is where faith is so important.
For we walk by faith, not by sight,
2 Corinthians 5:7 HCSB
It says it right there in God's Word. Throughout scripture, God shows His presence and power in story upon story. Faith is believing He can because He says He will.
When we choose to run to Him, He can help us or even carry us through the scary circumstances. If we choose to run from Him, it shows a lack of faith and can lead to walls in your relationship with Him. We should want His protection and help in all times but especially when life threatens us.
